Gujarat BJP’s state executive meet today passed a resolution against “injustice to Gujarat by the central government”. In this resolution draft, the BJP has questioned the way the central government has finalized the project of a river bridge near Bharuch in central Gujarat. This river bridge near Bharuch is a pet project of Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat Shri Ahmed Patel, who is from Bharuch. Shri Ahmed Patel is Political Secretary of UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. He had made announcement of this river bridge in March this year during his visit to Bharuch. Later on first May this year, the construction work was kicked off in presence of five central ministers.
The BJP in its resolution draft says: “There was a long pending demand for construction of a bridge at Zadeshwar near Bharuch. Recently a ground breaking ceremony was held. This bridge will be constructed on built operate transfer(BOT) basis and the cost involved is Rs 495 crore. This means the central government is not going to spend a single pie. On the contrary the central government will earn Rs 220 crore revenue from this bridge. Entire money spent for the construction of this bridge will be collected back from the people of Gujarat, and the central government will earn profit from that collection too.”
Following are the other main issues mentioned in the resolution draft:
-Eight years have passed after Shri Vajpayee government’s announcement on construction of highway roads under National Highway Authority of India, but work has not started.
-The central government has collected Rs 5500 crore through road tax on petrol from the people of Gujarat. This sum should be given back for road network in Gujarat. The centre has till date spent only Rs 1400 crore, while in Andhra they have spent Rs 4300 crore, in UP 10000 crore. More over there’s no progress on the proposals of Ahmedabad-Dandi road, Somnath-Dwarka road etc.
-The security project worth Rs 392 crore for Gujarat’s 1600 km coast is pending from last seven years.
-Though Gujarat has developed PNG, GNG gas pipeline infrastructure, Gujarat gets costlier gas compare to Mumbai, Delhi and other cities of India.
-Gujarat is the first state in India that announced solar policy and implemented it, but the central government has shown partiality between Rajasthan and Gujarat. While Rajasthan has been allotted 878 MW, Gujarat has been allotted only 20 MW.
-Sum of Rs 3525 crore central sale tax compensation is unpaid by centre. On the other hand Andhra, Delhi, Hariyana are paid back.
-Central government has cut 32% supply of kerosene for poor people of Gujarat. This has caused great difficulty for poor people. Central government has cut the supply to Orissa by 0.66%, Asam 0.15%, West Bengal 0.09%, while Gujarat is facing 32% cut in supply.
-Gujarat government has suffered a burden of Rs 6500 crore in connection with Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. The central government is not giving assistance.
According to Gujarat BJP spokesperson Shri IK Jadeja, the state unit of the party will start an awareness campaign against central government’s injustice to Gujarat.
