Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today sent an urgent letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to use his good offices and take all possible adequate and effective steps to ensure safety of Indian including Gujarati victims of the recent terrorist attack in Nairobi.

Mr. Modi in his letter said that that several innocent Indians have been killed or injured in the inhuman terrorist attack. With their families feeling insecure, he said, they expect prompt help from the Government of India.

The Chief Minister has sent his condolences to the bereaved families. He said that the Government of Gujarat is in constant touch with the Indian High Commissioner for Kenya, as well as prominent citizens of Kenya to enquire about the safety of the people of Indian origin.

Mr. Modi in his letter specifically drew Dr Singh’s attention to a fact that a large number of Indians, including Gujaratis, settled in Kenya for the last several generations and have indeed greatly contributed to socio-economic-cultural growth of their new country. Terrorist attack on such people has offended the Indian Diasporas.

He said that terrorist have no religion, borders and values. There is also an urgent need for all humanitarian forces around the world to organize themselves to fight terrorism, he said.
