L&T to build Rs. 2,989 crore Statue of Unity in 4 years: Gujarat CM

Gujarat government today formally presented work order to L&T company for construction of Statue of Unity featuring Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Formal announcement in this regard was made by Chief Minister Anandiben Patel in presence of media in Gandhinagar. She said the work of statue will be completed in four years(to be precise 42 months, or by year 2018 as per the CM’s statement) at a cost of Rs. 2,989 crore.
Chief Minister said, the statue will boost tourism. She said the statue project involves construction of not just 182 meter tall world’s biggest statue but also an underwater fish aquarium, Agriculture development and water management centre, a museum dedicated to Sardar Patel and other attractions.
The statue will be built using 75,000 Cubic meter concrete, 5,700 mt structural steel, 18,500 mt reinforcement bar, 8 mm thickness 1900 mt bronze. A 182 meters tall statue will provide opportunity to visitors to view the dam from the height of 450 ft.
Each year 25 lakh visitors will visit the place as per an estimate.
The Government of India had in its last budget made allotment of Rs. 200 crore for the statue project. Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allotment of Rs. 200 crore to Sardar Vallabhbhai Rashtriya Ekta Trust for this project.
