Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed a stadium-full of BJP members in Assam state in north east where BJP has not been in power on its own ever. Shri Modi, surprised to see the size of the meeting said this is not rally, this is merely a meeting of BJP members from Assam, but it is too big. Shri Modi apologized to those who couldn’t enter into the stadium and watching his address outside in open ground. Shri Modi said he was first approached and asked to give some time to this meeting when he was abroad. He turned down the proposal as his schedule in Assam was tight. Later when he came back to Delhi he was approached by party president and asked to give some time to this meeting. Modi said he couldn’t refuse party president and gave time just five days back. Modi congratulated the state unit of BJP for achieving such a successful meeting of state party unit just in five days.
Apart from other things, Modi in his speech also spoke about Bangladeshi intrusion and border land issue. He said: I understand the sentiments of Assamese people. Even when it comes to land acquisition, we will bear national interest in mind and the interest of the people of Assam. I will make such arrangements that Bangladeshis, who infiltrate into Assam and trouble you, are pushed out. I left home to serve my motherland. And the land of Assam is also my mother. Whatever decision we will take, though it may look like it’s not good in short-term, it will be good in long-term.
