Gujarat police is keen to emulate Singapore for managing traffic efficiently with the help of latest technology, a senior police officer said.
“Every year, around 1.4 lakh people die in accidents in India, which is the highest in world. Management of traffic has become a major challenge for police, especially in urban areas, where congestion is one of the main issues. Enforcement of traffic rules is also a tough task,” Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) P C Thakur today told reporters here.
“For us, Singapore is an ideal country, which has done
a tremendous job in managing traffic and ensuring safety of citizens with the use of latest technology,” he added.
According to the DGP, the police department is interested in adopting various new technologies, such as CCTV-based traffic surveillance, e-challan system, red light violation detection system, accident analysis measures, advanced technologies in road accident investigation and traffic enforcement using PPP model.
To throw more light on the latest technologies, Gujarat police and state Home Department have organised a one-day seminar-cum-exhibition ‘National Traffic Technology Summit-2015’ on January 2 in Ahmedabad.
The seminar will focus on the areas of smart traffic management, smart traffic enforcement and smart road accident investigation, Thakur said.
Over 500 experts from across the world will take part in the event.
“In order to learn more about the new tools and technologies available in implementing these features into our system, we have invited many international companies, such as IBM, 3M and Siemens, to give demonstration of their services.
Later, we will take a call on whether to implement these services,” Thakur said.
