February 12, 2015
New Delhi
BJP today thanked the people of Assam for giving a major victory in urban body elections.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told media persons at BJP headquarters in Delhi: “Assam witnessed 74 urban bodies election on February 9th, counting for which is taking place today.”
“Results of 42 town committees, 32 municipal board results are out.”
“BJP has won 23 out of 42 town committee seats so far. Congress has won 9 seats and others have won zero seat. Last time BJP could win only 11 seats.”
“Out of 32 municipal boards, BJP has won 21 seats while Congress has won 8 and AGP has won 1. Previously BJP had won only 5 seats.”
“While in 2009 there was only 61% polling, this time there was 72% polling.”
“This Clean sweep in Assam for BJP in local body elections indicates that people of Assam have decided to elect BJP in upcoming assembly polls in 2016.”
The fight was primarily between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress in the most urban local bodies consisting of 32 municipal boards and 42 town committees. Both Congress and BJP are working hard to be in power in the upcoming Assembly Elections in 2016 in Assam.
On one hand where AGP is taking this election as a stage for their comeback, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is trying its level best to make its presence felt in its maiden battle in the urban civic body elections.
