4,779 in fray for polls to 6 municipal corporations in Gujarat

A total of 4,779 candidates have filed nominations for the elections to six municipal corporations in Gujarat, including the prestigious Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
Secretary of Gujarat State Election Commission Mahesh Joshi said that 3,147 forms were submitted till the last day of filing of forms.
The municipal corporations of Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Jamnagar and Bhavnagar would go to polls on November 22.
In Ahmedabad, 1,640 candidates have filed nomination forms, 1,154 in Surat, 518 in Vadodara, 591 in Rajkot, 471 in Jamnagar and 405 in Bhavnagar.
The last date for withdrawal is November 9.
Congress and BJP are in direct fight in all these bodies, which is controlled by the BJP at present. Counting of votes will take place on December 2.
