A case against jailed Patidar quota stir leader Hardik Patel has been lodged for illegally keeping cell phone charger and battery and trying to hand it over along with a letter to an unknown person while being taken out for a court production, police said today.
Police Inspector of Sachin police station in Surat, under whose jurisdiction the Lajpore central jail falls, Mr. M Sheikh today said that the case was filed in the police station by jail authorities last night.
He said that Hardik while being taken to Visnagar on March 8 for a court production tried to hand over a packet to an unknown person. The jail guards accompanying him seized the packet which contained a mobile phone battery, a charger and a letter to the media. The matter was being investigated. The unknown person to whom the packet was being given somehow fled
Notably a few days ago, two sim-less mobile phones were also found near his ward in the jail.
Hardik is lodged in the jail since his arrest in October last year in connection with a sedition case.
