GMDC for first time supplies Lignite to Surat textile industry in monsoon

Surat: Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) has, for the first time, started supplying lignite to 400 textile mills during the monsoon season. GMDC's lignite mines used to remain shut during the monsoon, which typically led the mills to import lignite from abroad, mainly from Indonesia. Morbi: The Morbi Chamber of Commerce in a letter to the chief minister has raised the issue of inadequate supply of lignite to small and medium industries of Morbi and threatened to launch a movement protesting GMDC’s unfair trade practice if the problem doesn’t get resolved within 15 days. Bhavanagar: Police today arrested around 50 people and resort to tear gas lobbing and baton charge at a coal mining site in and around Badi village under Ghogha taluka of Bhavnagar district.
