A protest rally led by BJP MLA of Mahuva Shri Kanubhai Kalsariya against Gujarat government’s decision to allot village land to Nirma company without local consent was stopped by police in Mahuva due to lack of permission. The police action invited violent clash in which at least 10 police men and several protesters were injured and 200 ladies and gents were arrested.
The protesters turned violent when police tried to arrest their leader and popular BJP MLA Shri Kanubhai Kalsariya. Police Sub Inspector Surani was taken to local hospital for further treatment as his hand was badly injured, thanks to stones pelted by protesters angry with lathicharge of police on farmers.
Kalsariya in his speech accused state government of harming lives of local farmers for one industrialist. He said he was ready to sacrifice his post of MLA for good of local farmers.
