All you want to know about new SpiceJet flight connecting Surat to Mumbai, Delhi and Mangalore from 1st February 2012

Budget airline SpiceJet has finally announced its new flight connecting the city of Surat with Mangalore, Delhi and Mumbai from 1st of February this year. SpiceJet will use 189 seater flight to connect Surat with three cities.

Sun light operations due to non availability of night landing

According to an announcement made on its website today:

-Flight SG 151 will leave Delhi at 6.25 am and will arrive at Surat airport at 8.05 am.
-After 25 minute halt it will leave for Mumbai at 8.35 am and will reach Mumbai at 9.20 am after 45 minute flight.
-After over one hour halt at Mumbai, it will leave for Mangalore at 10.25 am, and reach there at 11.55 am.
-From Mangalore, flight SG 152 will leave for Mumbai at 12.25 am and arrive at Mumbai airport at 13.55.
-At 14.35 it will leave Mumbai and arrive at Surat airport at 15.20.
-From Surat, the flight will leave for Delhi at 16.05 and reach Delhi at 17.45.

Speaking to DeshGujarat, Surat based Venus jewels Chairman Sevantibhai Shah said, “This flight will be like blessing for Surat based diamond merchants, because it will connect them to Bandra-Kurla based Bharat Diamond Bourse which is located near the Mumbai airport. Moreover the flight schedule is convenient, because a person can leave for Mumbai in the morning and can return in the evening.”

However Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce President Shri Rohit Mehta said that timing of morning flight is good, but afternoon timing is little awkward.

Though Surat airport has nigh-landing facility, it is not yet okayed by the central aviation authority DGCA. Therefore the timings of SpiceJet flight are fixed in sunlight hours.

Ticket prices are reasonable and attractive

As per the SpiceJet website online booking system, on Saturday, 14th of January, the booking rates were following:

1st February Surat-Delhi adult fare Rs 2500, return fare Rs 3871
Delhi-Surat 1999, return fare Rs 4290
1st March Surat-Delhi adult fare Rs 1500, return fare Rs 3000

1st February Surat-Mangalore adult fare Rs 4334, return fare Rs 6841
Mangalore-Surat 2885, return fare Rs 5338
1st March Surat-Mangalore adult fare Rs 2735, return fare Rs 5338

1st February Surat-Mumbai adult fare Rs 1999, return fare Rs 2901
Mumbai-Surat 1499, return fare Rs 2867
1st March Surat-Mumbai adult fare Rs 999, return fare Rs 1998

Comparison with the fastest Surat-Mumbai train

Presently the fastest train connecting Surat and Mumbai is Shatabdi express which departs from Surat at 18.02 , and reaches Borivali at 20.52 and Mumbai central at 21.35. Thus it takes around three hours. Considering checking and boarding time, an air journey between Surat and Mumbai will take about two hour time(you need to report at airport 45 minutes before the flight, plus there’s 45 air journey, and 30 minutes for other things). Shatabdi express’s first class AC fare for adult is Rs 880 while AC chair car costs Rs 455.The fare is however lesser for senior citizen, while if you book SpiceJet ticket in advance, it will cost Rs 999.

Cheaper than existing Indian Airlines flight

If booked today online, the Indian Airlines economy adult ticket fare for 1 February Surat-Delhi journey is Rs 5189 while for 1 March journey on same route the ticket is available for Rs 3120. This is much lesser compare to SpiceJet ticket which is available today online at a price of Rs 2500(for 1st February journey) and Rs 1500(for 1st March journey).

The flight AI9608 departs at 16.40 and reaches Delhi at 18.20.The flight AI9607 leaves Delhi at 14.30 and arrives at Surat airport at 16.10 daily. As SpiceJet flight is scheduled to leave for Delhi at 16.05, which is 35 minutes prior to AI flight, it is almost confirm that most of the Surat-Delhi traffic of existing Indian Airlines flight will divert to SpiceJet flight.

Construction of the terminal of Surat airport was completed in a record one year in February 2009. The terminal building with total floor area of 8,500 square meter and capacity to handle 300 passengers at a time was constructed at a cost of Rs 40 crore. There are three conveyor belts and one hand baggage X-ray machine in the arrival building.
