Rs 400 crore for Surat-Bhavnagar hospitals, Rs 204 crore for 250 medical seats

Central Government has approved Rs 400 crore projects for Bhavnagar based Sir T hospital and Surat based New Civil hospital to further strengthen the super specialty medical services. While Rs 200 crore amount has been approved for Bhavnagar based hospital, same amount has been approved for Surat based hospital.
According to Health Minister Nitin Patel, the amount will be spent for purchase of MRI, CT scan, Linear Accelerator etc equipment for Surat Civil hospital. It will also be spent for construction of super specialty building.
While Rs 160 crore will come from the central government, Rs 40 crore will be spent from Gujarat government budget. Thus the scheme will provide central government assistance worth Rs 320 crore and state government contribution worth Rs 80 crore.
Patel said the state government has planned 70 additional seats in government medical college of Vadodara where at present there are 180 MBBS seats. This will be achieved through Rs 1.20 crore per seat assistance scheme of central government. Similarly 100 medical seats will be added to government medical college in Surat where at present there are 150 MBBS seats.
Central government has approved Rs 204 crore project for these additional 250 seats.
