Jitu Vaghani becomes Gujarat BJP President
August 10, 2016
Gandhinagar: Younger among lot, 46-year-old Bhavanagar (West) MLA Jitu Vaghani has been appointed as new president of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) in Gujarat. His name has been announced from BJP headquarters in Delhi.
L.I.C consultant and construction business person Vaghani has emerged from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) and Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha(BJYM) cadre. He is from Leuva Patidar community. He has been state office bearer holding important posts in the past including state BJYM president.
He became MLA for the first time in 2012. Vaghani is considered close to MoS in centre and BJP big-wig from Gujarat Parshottam Rupala.
The party has selected Chief Minister and party president both from Saurashtra region where it performed poorly particularly in rural pockets last year. When Modi as non-Patidar was Chief Minister, the party had selected Leuva Patidar community man R.C. Faldu as state party president to keep balance. Ditto this time party has attempted balancing as Chief Minister is non-Patidar and newly appointed state party president is Patidar. The party has with this move tried to float another Leuva Patidar young leader in Saurashtra belt. Earlier party had elevated Leuva Patidar youth Vitthal Radadia to cabinet rank in order to create young Leuva Patidar leadership in Saurashtra. The entire Patidar quota agitation that hurt BJP in Saurashtra belt was participated majorly by Leuva Patidar youths.
Vaghani is young and he will be cordial with state Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel who are very very senior. Thus there’s no possibility of a situation in which there are two centers of power(government and organization).
Vaghani will succeed Vijay Rupani as party president. Rupani was made state party president in February this year succeeding R.C.Faldu. Rupani resigned from the post of state party president before taking oath as Chief Minister of Gujarat last Sunday.
The transformation process so far: first a new younger Chief Secretary, then a younger Chief Minister, and now a younger party president
