New Guinness world record for collective singing of national anthem created in Gujarat temple

Rajkot: A new Guinness world record for collective singing of national anthem was created in a temple of Gujarat today when over 3.50 lakh people sang it together.

What is interesting it that the record was earlier held by Bangladesh which had beaten an even earlier Indian record.

Over 3.5 lakh people sang the Indian national anthem ‘Jan Gan Man….’ in Khodaldham temple situated in Kagvad around 60 km from here on the sidelines of a religious ceremony to set up new idols this morning.

The Guinness record for most people singing a national anthem simultaneously prior to it was 254,537 people and was achieved by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of Bangladesh at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 26 March 2014.

Prior to that the record with 121,653 participants was created by Sahara group employees and volunteers in Lucknow,on 6 May 2013 breaking a Pakistani record of around 43 thousand people.

The Guinness officials who oversaw the event in Kagvad today later handed over the certificate of the new record to Khodaldham trustee Naresh Patel. however the counting procedure to ascertain the exact number was still on. There were over 11000 volunteers involved to count this.

New Chairman of the trust Paresh Gajera claimed that the number could go over 5 lakhs.

Patel said that he was very happy about it. He said that an estimated 75 lakh people from all across the country and the world have made a footfall during the 5 day long pran pratistha (setting up of new idols and religiously enliven them) event of the temple. A permanent platform for hoisting the national flag has also been made in the temple premises. The height of the magnificent temple of the Leuwa community of Patidar or Patel caste in Gujarat has been intentionally kept 10 ft lower than that of world famous Somnath temple as a mark of respect to lord Shiva.
