Zaverilal Mehta, Dr. Pankaj Shah, SS Rathore from Gujarat along with Mumbai based Gujaratis actor Manoj Joshi, Sitar artist Arvind Parikh to receive Padma awards

Ahmedabad: City based senior photo journalist of top Gujarati daily Gujarat Samachar, Zaverilal Mehta, city based senior oncologist doctor Pankaj Shah and Retired Additional Chief Secretary S.S. Rathore who is Managing Director of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd will receive Padma Shri award this year. Their names are announced for Padma awards on the eve of Republic day. Mumbai based Gujarati actor Manoj Joshi will also receive Padma Shri Award this year, details of which are covered in separate news story. Another Gujarati in Padma awards list is Mumbai based Sitar artist Arvind Parikh who was born in Ahmedabad into a Gujrati Business Family. In 1944, at the age of 17, he moved to Mumbai and started learning from sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Khan. Parikh will get Padma Bhushan.
