First rain, car from wrong side, sliding bus and collapse of CCTV panel: AMC releases video footage
June 24, 2018
Ahmedabad: The city of Ahmedabad received heavy rainfall today early in the morning. This was in fact the first proper shower in this city this year. One of incidents that hit headline following this heavy rain was collapse of citywide CCTV network panel at Dharnidhar cross roads.
The panel collapsed due to falling of one of poles on central verge supporting it. The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) soon made CCTV footage of the incident public to showcase how one car driving on wrong side triggered chain of reactions.
A BRTS bus coming from the Shreyas over bridge was in good speed due to clear road. Suddenly a car came from wrong side. Citing this, the bus driver applied brakes at some distance which resulted into sliding of bus. The bus hit central verge and a pole supporting the CCTV camera panel. The bus crossed the central verge and entered into other lane. Thankfully none was present at that particular place there at that time, otherwise this incident could prove fatal for someone.
Sliding of vehicles during the first rain is not new phenomena. Oil leaked from the vehicles round the year on road surface when mixed with water due to first rain cause incidents in which vehicles get slipped. Careful, slow and in-control driving during and after the first rain is highly advisable.
