Large number of Muslims, holding national tricolour, greeted the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the densely populated Muslim areas such as Polan Bazaar, Signal Faliya, Satpul Ol, Goya Mohalla, Badri Mohalla, Vhorvad, Ambli Faliya, Sathadiya Bazar, Adumbar Kuva, Makanpura, Kadiavad, Bavani Madhi, Savlivad, Gondara etc. in Godhra town on the night before Republic Day.
Muslims community in Polan Bazaar had decorated their homes and illuminated them marking the 60th Republic Day celebration. Banner welcoming Narendra Modi could be seen outside the streets in Muslim areas.
Modi was in Godhra for the official Republic Day celebrations of Gujarat government.
Godhra’s Ghanchi Muslim Samaj had submitted a letter to the Panchmahal’s District Collector Milind Torwane, requesting to organise Modi’s visit to the Polan Bazaar and arrange a felicitation for the CM there.
Vipul Agrawal, the In-charge of the district Supritendent of Police of the Panchmahals district, who was part of Chief Minister’s motorcade convoy during Modi’s visit to Polan Bazaar, told agencies that they had found it difficult to control the crowd who were very eager to greet Modi.
The Panchmahals district and police administration took upon the responsibility of Modi’s visit to this most sensitive area and Modi halted his car in the area to greet Muslim youths and shook hands with them.
The security agencies from Gandhinagar were against Modi visiting the sensitive Polan Bazaar locality. Muslim youths offered flowers to Modi. A Muslim youth Mustafa Musa Pathan put on the mask of Modi on his face and did acting of Modi standing in a jeep which was a part of rally which moved into Godhra town and the District Collector Torwane awarded a cash prize of Rs 5,000 to the youth.
Modi preferred to halt his car in the Polan Bazaar saying that they are all members of five-and-half crore population of Gujarat.
Modi’s car convoy consisted of only three cars as he did not want big convoy of cars. It took more than 15 minutes for Modi’s convoy of cars to move into Polanbazar locality where the people had lined up on both the sides of the roads. Modi honoured eminent five Muslim leaders in the Republic Day function.
