Monday’s one day strike call in Surat has been canceled by some of the bodies supporting it influenced by the BJP following a request made by Minister of State for Home, Amit Shah. Navsari BJP MP C.R.Patil and local chamber’s Mr. Nilesh Mandelval announced that the steps taken by the Police and the government in Surat rape issue are well enough and the strike call has been canceled.

However Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bajrang Dal, Mahagujarat Janata Party and several other organizations have continued to back the strike call on Monday.

Sensing great amount of anger in Surat, MOS for Home Amit Shah arrived in Surat late in the night on Saturday via special plane and assured quick justice through setting up a fast track court in Surat rape case.

Amit Shah said, “The Surat Police has done a commendable job by catching the rapists within three hours after the incident. Nowhere in India, the police has done such a quick job. Strike call in Surat is unnecessary. Police will ensure that the rapists get strictest possible reward for what they have done. A fast track court will be set up for fast justice in this case.”

When asked about Police Commissioner Deepak Swaroop’s transfer, Amit Shah said the Police Commissioner has been transferred for his remarks. The State government has honored press and media, because it was the media that led our attention towards Deepak Swaroop’s statements. Shah said, “forget Deepak Swaroop, the government has appointed efficient Police officer Subhash Trivedi to supervise this case with free-hand.”

“People of Surat should not support those who want to disrupt peace in the city,” said Amit Shah.
