A rare incident of ‘bird-hit’ in dark occurs at Ahmedabad airport
Ahmedabad, 23 April, 2011
There was a ‘bird hit’ case at Ahmedabad airport in dark hours of night. This case of ‘bird hit’ happened due to not exactly a bird but due to a bat(which is considered as mammal and not bird), active in dark.
The incident happened at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday when Spice Jet flight was landing. Though ‘bird hit’ affected the fans of the plane, it was successfully taken to parking bay and all passengers were safe after feeling momentary shock.
The plane was grounded for a day for repair and technicians were called from Delhi.
Ahmedabad airport is well known for frequent bird-hit incidents, and also for monkeys menace that disturbs movement of flights sometime. However it has happened perhaps for the first time that an incident of ‘bird hit’ has been registered in the night.
Ahmedabad airport has special group of ground workers to guard runway from birds using laser, however the staff is relieved every evening at 8.00 pm.
