Four urban housing schemes get Gujarat cabinet go-ahead

The Gujarat cabinet today approved four urban housing schemes – Slum Rehabilitation Scheme, Economically Weak Section(EWS) housing scheme, Neo-middle class housing scheme and Law Income Group(LIG) housing scheme.
The ambitious plan of building affordable houses in urban areas of Gujarat involves target of constructing 22 lakh urban houses in five years.
Out of four housing schemes, the Slum rehabilitation scheme shall be implemented on existing slum land through Public Private Partnership(PPP) model. A local agency shall be chosen through tender process. For Law Income Group housing, the state government has already approved Rs. 400 crore in this year’s budget.
