Kidney Hospital Ahmedabad gets Independent State University status

Gujarat government has taken a decision to grant state university status to Ahmedabad’s Civil hospital campus based Kidney hospital. This detail was shared by state Health Minister Shri Nitin Patel.
The government has at present granted in-principal approval. However, formal approval will be granted by passing a bill in the next session of Gujarat assembly.
Health Minister Nitinbhai Patel in a statement said, Dr. HL Trivedi, Director of Kidney Institute had requested the Chief Minister to grant independent state university status to Kidney hospital. In this connection, an important meeting chaired by Chief Minister was held on 26 November in Gandhinagar in which ministers Nittin Patel, Shankarbhai Chaudhary, secretaries of Health, Education, Law departments and Dr. HL Trivedi himself were present. A decision to grant independent state university status was taken in this meeting.
Shri Patel further said that this hospital witnesses 350-400 kidney transplantation, 40-50 lever transplantation, 250-300 stem-cell transplantation. The hospital offers 50,000 dialysis to kidney failure patients, check over 1.5 lakh patients, conducts 12-15 lakh lab tests each month.
The hospital according to minister’s statement, will offer Phd, DM, DNB, MD, dialysis, transplant specialization, pathology specialization, dialysis nursing, technician and dialysis doctor’s courses. Thus a decision to grant state university status to Kidney institute will add more super speciality seats for medical studies.
