New Delhi
In an effort to provide wi-fi connectivity in more railway stations, Indian Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday brought category B stations under the cover of the facility.
Prabhu, while presenting the railway budget, said wi-fi facility is being provided in all A1 and A category stations.
“Further, as part of Digital India initiative, Wi-Fi will be provided at B category stations as well,” he said.
Noting that tourism holds a great potential for job- creation, he said that the ministry has intended to replicate training of auto-rickshaw drivers at major tourist stations.
“We have successfully experimented on Konkan Railway tourism promotion through training of auto-rickshaw and taxi operators as tourist-guides since they are the first point of contact for our passengers. We intend replicating this at major tourist stations,” he added.
Also, the railways have proposed to explore the possibility of offering some coaches in select trains connecting major tourist destinations to travel agencies on a revenue-sharing model, the Railway Minister stated.
