Supreme Court rejects PIL against Jamnagar Lakefront Development project
May 12, 2015
Jamnagar
The Supreme Court has rejected a Public Interest Litigation challenging Jamnagar’s Lakhota lakefront development project. The court has given verdict in favor of Jamnagar Municipal Corporation(JMC).
Some NGOs had opposed the lake front development project citing environmental, archaeological and other reasons and filed six applications in High Court.
Gujarat High Court had initially given stay order and asked JMC to stop the development project. After several months, the High Court lifted the stay just recently on 1st April.
A local ‘activist’ backed by NGOs challenged this verdict in Supreme Court. However Supreme Court has rejected his plea.
