Gujarat CM suggests paperless working in govt offices in two years

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel today called for confluence of computerization, e-governance and mobile-governance of all state government offices in a year or two to provide easy, effective and economic and transparent governance.

Speaking at the state-level function of Digital India Week (July 1-6) organized by the State Science & Technology Department here, she said that application of technology has helped Gujarat establish its unique identity in agriculture, education, health and other sectors.

She said the objective of Digital Gujarat in Digital India is to provide information about pro-people programmes as part of Smart Governance, virtually at the fingertips of mobile handset users. While efforts are on for simplification of the entire administrative process, she said the purpose is to provide online services to the people in 18,000-odd villages in 250 talukas in 33 districts.

The Chief Minister said it is time to provide Internet connectivity to GSWAN network. Keeping in view the need to focus on both hardware and software, she said the State Government has declared its Electronic Policy, having already set up infrastructure for GSWAN, Satcom and State Data Centre to make a success of Digital India and Make in India national campaigns.

She said the financial services providing information about seeds, weather forecast to the farmers and consultancy to the needy through telemedicine. As per a June-2015 report, Gujarat leads with139.23crore e-transactions, amounting to over 23,000 transactions per 1000 persons. She attributed the success of e-Dhara, e-Mamta and telecasting educational and other programmes on 18 DTH Channels through BIseg.

Others who spoke on the occasion included Minister of State for Science & Technology Govindbhai Patel, Chief Secretary G.R. Aloria and Science & Technology Secretary Dhananjay Dwivedi.

The function was attended by the Council of Ministers and senior Secretaries.
