Hitting back at Congress over the political crisis in Arunachal Pradesh, BJP said the impasse was caused by its internal crisis and dismissed its criticism of the Modi government for imposing President’s rule as an attempt to deflect blame.

Citing over a “century” scored by previous Congress governments in imposing President’s rule in states, it said such an “undemocratic” party should not blame an elected government for doing its “constitutional duty”.

“There was no assembly session for six months as envisaged by the Constitution. Even Congress rebel MLAs have blamed the then chief minister Nabam Tuki for the crisis in the state.

Congress should not put the blame on us for its internal crisis,” party’s national secretary Shrikant Sharma said while justifying the President’s rule.

Suggesting that a lingering political crisis in the state would have worsened the matters, he said it was a border state and needed order.

Congress had earlier in the day slammed the government for imposing President’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh, saying it is a “sledgehammer blow” to Indian federalism and “misuse” of the Constitution.

“Congress blames BJP for everything. It blamed the PMO for National Herald case. It behaved in an undemocratic manner when it was in power and continues to behave so when it is out of it,” Sharma said.
