Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley in his speech in Rajya Sabha on motion of thanks on President’s address. It starts with the fact that none of opposition members has been able to point out corruption in the present government contrary to earlier UPA government in power during which opposition had to speak in great length on corruption. Shri Jaitley then spoke about JNU events. Shri Jaitley proceeded further and spoke about the steps the government has taken on the issue of black money. He revealed how VDIS and other schemes introduced during Congress regime caused damage and contrary to that how the recently announced scheme is superior. Shri Jaitley then spoke about global outlook of economy and India’s better position in this. He spoke in detail clarifying government’s position on hike in excise duty on fuel. He argued the benefit is after all passed over to common people only. Jaitley while narrating the steps taken on economic front especially mentioned the poor state of steel industry and present government’s actions for its improvement – the steps that actually the previous government could take. Shri Jaitley then spoke about intolerance, Ishrat Jahan encounter issue, Jan Dhan Yojana and finally summing up his speech appealed the opposition and even ‘own friends’ not to adopt obstructionist approach as the country can’t afford it at this stage of time.
