Gujarat SIR Amendment Bill passed in Assembly

Gujarat Assembly today passed ‘Gujarat Special Investment Region(Amendment) Bill – 2016’ in order to include local self governance body’s elected members in development process.

Moving the bill in the assembly, Minister Shri Saurabh Patel said the Government of India has decided to develop 1504 km area between Delhi and Mumbai as dedicated freight corridor. Of this 565 km stretch is in Gujarat. On both sides 150 km area will be developed as Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor. For this Gujarat Special Investment Region Act – 2009 is in implementation.

Presently Dholera, Gujarat Petroleum Chemicals and Petro Chemicals, Aliabet, Santalpur, Halol-Savli, Navlakhi and Mandal-Bechraji Special Investment Region – SIR are set up. There’s provision to set up Region Development Authority to take fast decisions in reference to local development under year 2009 act in which state govt, chairman, vice chairman, two officials appointed by state govt, one officer appointed by appellate authority, one person having administrative experience, two persons having area development and region planning experience, 2 representatives of industry and commerce sector, one member secretary appointed by the sate government are accommodated.

With today’s amendment, an elected representative will also be appointed. Not more than four persons from local authority located in Special Investment Region will be appointed. More over district panchayat presidents will also be members of region development authority.
