Saurashtra, Kutch likely to experience heavy rains in next 24 hours: Met Department
June 28, 2016
Ahmedabad: Saurashtra and Kutch region of Gujarat are likely to experience heavy rainfall at some places during next 24 hours owing to an upper cyclonic circulation above 3.6 km from the sea level over north east Arabian sea and neighboring areas, a met department release today said.
The warning has come at a time when many places in coastal Gujarat today witnessed rains for the third day consecutive day. Rajkot city, Gondal, Jetpur, Virpur, Dhoraji, Upleta and some other places in Rajkot district, Savarkundala, Vijpadi, Chikhali, Dhari, Rajula, Bagasara in Amreli district and several places in Junagadh, Jamnagar and Porbandar in coastal Saurashtra recorded up to around one inch rain this afternoon.
Meanwhile, owing to the sea getting rougher owing to the above mentioned system over it, the met department has issued warning for fishermen also suggesting them to refrain from venturing in to the sea during next 24 hours. The ports in coastal Gujarat have been issued advise to hoist LCS 3 signal of danger.
The warning issued by the met center here read, ‘Due to low pressure over North Eastern Arabian Sea and neighborhood squally weather could prevail along north/south Gujarat coast. Wind will be blowing at 35 to 45 kilometer per hour from south westerly to southerly direction. Wind speed in squall may temporarily reach 50 kmph.’
It further read, ‘Sea will be rough with waves from south easterly to southerly direction. Fishermen are advised not to go out in the sea during next 24 hours. LCS no 3 hoisted at all ports of North/South Gujarat.’
North Gujarat and parts of central Gujarat including Ahmedabad are, however, looking like waiting for some more time for proper arrival of monsoon. The met department bulletin reads ‘light to moderate’ rains for these areas for the next few days.
