With coaches filled to capacity Talgo clocks 130 kmph

Mathura: A trial run of the high-speed Talgo train with its coaches filled to capacity was today conducted between Mathura and Palwal railway stations during which it clocked a maximum speed of 130 kmph.

During a trial run on July 14, the Spanish Talgo train had clocked a record speed of 180 kmph with empty coaches.

Sand bags were used to fill the coaches.

“The average weight of the passenger was taken as 70 Kg.

The loaded train clocked 130 kmph during the trail run,” Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM), Agra, Dilip Singh said.

He said the speed of the loaded train would be increased gradually.

Hauled by a 4,500-HP diesel engine, Talgo coaches are lightweight and designed to run on curves without decelerating.

The train consists of two executive class cars, four chair cars, a cafeteria, a power car and a tail-end coach for staff and equipment. Shipped from Barcelona, the Talgo aluminium coaches anchored at Mumbai port on April 21.
