Ahmedabad: Canada confirmed participation in the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit as one of the partner countries and today announced to bring its largest-ever delegation to the grand event to be held in January.
The announcement was made by Nadir Patel, Canada’s High Commissioner to India, here after a meeting with Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
According to Patel, the North American country, which is also a member of the G7 representing the major advanced economies, may bring a delegation of around 300 business leaders, its largest-ever, at the biennial event to be held at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar from January 10 to 13.
“We had a meeting with Chief Minister Vijay Rupani and confirmed that Canada will be one of the partner countries for Vibrant Gujarat Summit this time too.
“In the last Summit, we had a delegation of almost 200 business leaders. This time, we are aiming to have a delegation of 300,” he told PTI.
The Canadian envoy said the investment summit will provide a great opportunity to showcase what his country has to offer to the state.
“If you look at the sectors of opportunity in Gujarat, they happen to be align closely with what Canada has to offer, like oil & gas, renewable energy and agriculture,” he said.
Patel said around 40 Canadian companies have a presence in Gujarat, one of the most industrialised states in the country.
Commenting on the economic reforms initiated by the Modi Government, Patel stressed on fast-tracking their implementation and said India can do more on this front.
“Things are moving in right direction. However, we feel there is room to do more, and certainly we like to see the pace of change more quicker. But, we also understand that it will take some time (for the Government) to get there,” said Patel.
