Ahmedabad: Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) has in Gujarat achieved major victory in local body by-polls, mid-term and general elections.

The party has won both Vapi and Kanakpur Kansad municipalities that went to general elections. Both municipalities were earlier with BJP, but with fresh verdict today, BJP has increased its seats massively.

BJP has also snatched Gondal taluka panchayat in Saurashtra region from incumbent Congress.

Out of total 32 seats of district panchayats, taluka panchayats and municipalities that went to by-polls, BJP has won 23 seats while Congress has won only 9 seats.

Vapi Municipality general election

Industrial town Vapi is located on southernmost point of Gujarat before Daman. BJP has retained power in municipality here. Out of 44 seats, BJP has won 41 leaving 3 for Congress. Previous position was total 42 seats out of which BJP had won 35 while Congress 7.

Kanakpur Kansad Municipality general election

Kanakpur-Kansad is located in Surat district of South Gujarat. BJP has won 27 of total 28 seats leaving just 1 for Congress. Previous position was total 21 seats out of which BJP had 11 while Congress had 10 seats. However 8 Councillors of Congress had later joined BJP.

Gondal taluka panchayat midterm poll

Gondal is located in Rajkot district of Saurashtra region. Out of 22 seats, BJP has won 18 seats while Congress has won 4 seats. Previous position was 12 seats for Congress and 10 for BJP out of total 22 seats. As elected Congress body failed to pass budget continuously for three terms, the body witnessed midterm election in which BJP has come back to power with very good majority.

Bypolls

District and Taluka Panchayat seats

In district panchayats, out of 5 seats that went to bypolls, BJP has won 3 seats, which all are gain while Congress has won 2 seats and lost 3 when compared to previous election. In taluka panchayats out of total 9 seats, BJP has won 5 seats which is 3 more compared to previous election when it had won 2 seats. Congress has won 4 seats and lost 3 compared to previous election when it won 7 seats.

Midterm polls for Taluka Panchayat seats

Out of total 22 seats that went to midterm polls, BJP has won 18 seats while Congress has got 4 seats. In previous polls BJP had won 10 seats while Congress had won 12.

Municipality bypolls

Out of total 18 seats of municipalities that went to bypolls, BJP contested 17 and won 15 leaving 3 for Congress. In previous position BJP had won 6 seats while Congress 11.

Municipality general elections

Out of total 27 seats of municipalities that went to general election, BJP has won 68 seats compared to 46 last time while Congress has won 4 seats compared to 17 last time.

Total

In total, out of 126 local body seats that went to election, results of 126 are out. BJP contested 125 and won 109, much higher compared to 64 previously while Congress has wom 17 seats compared to 52 previously.
