British patient undergoes bypass surgery in Gujarat at the age of 90

Ahmedabad: Doctors at city based private hospital today on Monday said they have successfully performed bypass surgery on a 90-year old British born patient.
According to doctors at CIMS hospital, Mr. John Craig(90) a Britisher settled in Kenya underwent a successful CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft) Surgery at CIMS Hospital and became one of the oldest recorded known foreigner ( Non Indian from another non Asian Country) to have open heart bypass surgery in India (as a medical tourism destination).
Doctors said Mr. John had recently come to India and had history of fall and unconsciousness twice at Simandhar City Ahmedabad. They consulted Dr Parthiv Malde and Dr Anup Sanghvi in Amba Health Centre, Trimandir ( At Dada Bhagwan initiated Simandhar City in Adalaj) and he was advised to undergo coronary angiography at CIMS Hospital. He was admitted under Dr Keyur Parikh, Cardiologist at CIMS Hospital.He underwent all investigation and after undergoing an angiography, he was diagnosed as having critical block in Left main artery of the heart. All Heart Arteries were very calcified and hence only option available was Bypass surgery.He himself with doctors advise opted to have bypass surgery.
Dr Dhiren Shah, Cardiac Surgeon, CIMS Hospital and his team successfully operated him. He is recovering fine and will be discharged today.
Doctors said:Open Heart surgery can be done at any age provided patient should be mentally ready and have a will to live . John has a strong desire to complete 100 years . He is at present also actively working and doing social services. Age is only a relative number , if person is to physically and mentally strong he can undergo any surgery at any age.
