Milk City to run: IRMA to hold annual marathon ‘Anand Run’

Anand: The Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) will host the popular annual marathon “Anand Run’ in this Central Gujarat city this year on the theme ‘Digi Run: Run for Cashless Economy’ to spread awareness regarding the benefits of a cashless economy.

The 5 and 10 km distance run on January 22 will be the 11 th edition of the Anand Run, a popular annual affair with a ‘social cause’ hosted by the premier institute in the field of rural management. Editor IRMA Indrani Talukdar today said that the theme this year is Digi Run: Run for Cashless Economy. ‘The aim is to spread awareness regarding the benefits of a cashless economy in the wake of the recent demonetization introduced by the Government of India. Participants are expected to promote the idea with the help of pamphlets detailing the benefits of digital payments and demolishing misconceptions in the context of e-transactions, among other things. Volunteers from IRMA, too, are expected to spread awareness along with participants during the event,’ she said.

Drawing enthusiastic participants from Anand and nearby metros like Ahmedabad and Vadodara, the run is expected to attract a footfall of more than 500 participants this year, she added saying that the participant will have the choice to choose from either of the 5 or 10 km distance for run which will start and culminate at the IRMA main gate.

The district-level marathon is organized by IRMA as part of its flagship event ‘MILAAP’, the annual IRMA Alumni Meet. The Anand Run also serves as a platform to promote a socially relevant theme through mass participation.

IRMA’s students have engaged the social media widely to this end while a website dedicated exclusively to the run has, besides guaranteeing optimal participation, ensured a wide outreach. Winners of the event will be awarded prizes worth Rs. 30,000. The larger aim of the event, however, is getting people to converge on a common platform for a relevant social cause, Ms Talukdar said.
