CM Rupani to present Padma award to Ratna Sundar Maharaj at Bharuch

Bharuch: Chief Minister Vijay Rupani will present Padma Bhushan award to Jain monk Vijay Ratna Sundar Surishwarji Maharaj Saheb in Bharuch today. A function in this regard has been organized at Garba Ground – Maktampura in Bharuch during 2-5 pm.

Exactly 50 years ago on this date (13th of April), Vijay Ratna Sundar Surishwarji Maharam Saheb had left worldly life to become monk.

Rashrapati Bhavan had invited him to receive Padma award exactly on this date, but in such a short notice it was very difficult for Ratna Sundar Maharaj to walk all the way to Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi to receive an award(Jain monks don’t travel on wheels, they just walk barefoot). Therefore the President and the Prime Minister asked Chief Minister Rupani who is also Jain by faith to present the award.

Meanwhile, due to visit by Chief Minister, Golden bridge of Bharuch will remain closed for general traffic for a few hours.

It should be noted here that Chief Minister Rupani during his Bharuch visit will also review the ongoing construction work for Narmada Maiya river bridge. This bridge which is under construction will be an alternative to British era Golden bridge. A new bridge which is being constructed by State government will provide better transportation between Bharuch and Ankleshwar, two important towns of Central Gujarat located on two sides of river Narmada.
