Ahmedabad: The Ahmedbad Municipal Corporation will ‘whiten’ the roofs of around 500 dwelling units in various slums across the city to give relief to the slum-dwellers from the deadly heat-wave conditions.

The white-washing of the outer roofs of 500 dwelling units in various slums of Behrampura (Southern Zone), Bapunagar (Northern Zone), Chandlodia (New Western Zone), Naranpura (Western Zone), Vastral (Eastern Zone) and Shahibaug (Central Zone) would be done on April 17, a statement issued by the corporation said today.

It would as a part of Heat Action Plan 2017 and would be carried with the assistance from various non government organizations and religious bodies. The whitening of the outer surface of the roof would reflect the heat from the sun letting the interior of the dwelling unit remaining cooler.

The statement also said that the number of drinking water booths set up in the wake of summer would be further increased from the existing around 600 across the city.
