New Delhi: The Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi has assigned the task of looking after Gujarat affairs of party to a new All India Congress Committee(AICC) team as per designations given below:

Ashok Gehlot: General Secretary, AICC
Rajiv Satav: Secretary, AICC
Harshvardhan Sapkal: Secretary, AICC
Smt Varsha Gaikwad: Secretary, AICC
Jeetu Patwari: Secretary, AICC

With this Gujarat party incharge Gurudas Kamat is replaced with Ashok Gehlot who is also former Chief Minister of Rajasthan.

This is for the second time when Gehlot has been appointed Gujarat Congress incharge replacing Gurudas Kamat. In March 2014 for a brief time, Gehlot was assigned charge of Gujarat Congress replacing Kamat as Kamat was busy contesting election in Mumbai.

With appointment of Gehlot, both Gujarat Congress and Gujarat BJP are now having their incharges from Rajasthan. Ruling BJP recently announced Bhupendra Yadav as its state incharge. Yadav is from Ajmer, Rajasthan.

Gurudas Kamat reacts to this development

Meanwhile, outgoing State Congress incharge Gurudas Kamat in series of tweets said: I welcome the decision of Congress party to give charge of Gujarat to Ashok Gehlot and four Secretaries. I had asked Congress vice president to relieve me on 3rd February, the day Congress list of candidates was declared in Mumbai and again on 21st February, day of polling. I followed my request to Vice President Rahul Gandhi with a letter to Congress President. I met Vice President Rahul Gandhi last Wednesday and asked to be relieved of all responsibilities. I thank Congress President Smt Sonia Gandhi and Congress Vice President Shri Rahul Gandhi for the opportunity to serve the party.

Kamat who is AICC General Secretary has resigned from all party posts.
