New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the longest river bridge of India on May 26 in Assam. The bridge is 9.15 km long. It is 3.55 km longer than Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai. The project cost of this bridge is Rs 950 crore. Construction of this bridge started in 2011. The bridge is located at 540 km from Assam capital and 300 km from Arunachal Pradesh capital. This Dhola – Sadiya bridge on the river Brahmaputra will cut down travel time between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh by 4 hours. It is capable of withstanding the weight of a 60-tonne battle tank. The new bridge will help shore up defence infrastructure along the India-China border as the aerial distance from this bridge to China border is less than 100 km. With the inauguration of the bridge, the Prime Minister will kick off the celebrations of the NDA government’s three years in office.
