Gujarat’s Tejas Bakre,Dhyana Patel,Hiya Panchal win medals at Common Wealth Chess Championship-2017

New Delhi: For the very first time Gujarat got the podium finish in Open Commonwealth Chess Championship which was held at Delhi during 2-10 July, 2017.
GM Tejas Bakre won the bronze medal at Commonwealth Championship-2017 held at Delhi.
Wonder kid of Gujarat Naitik Mehta played exceptionally well to stood 33rd and increased whooping ELO 133 points in open category. Bravo that the kid gave up his age U-14 category and played in Open Category.
Best result of the tournament for Gujarat was Hiya Panchal winning the Silver Medal in U-8 (Girls) Category while WCM Dhyana Patel won the bronze in U-12 (Girls) category.
The positions and achievements in different categories of Gujarat Chess Players during Commonwealth Chess Championship-2017 are as under:
U-8 (G) – Hiya Panchal – 2nd position, increased rating by 56 pts.
U-10 (G) – Riddhi Patel – 4th position, increased rating by 28 pts.
U-10 (B) – Adi Jain – 8th position, increased rating by 33 pts.
U-12 (G) – Dhyana Patel – 3rd position, increased rating by 45 pts.
U-14 (G) – Shilpee Madhani – 9th position, increased rating by 33 pts.
U-14 (B) – Moksh Doshi – 9th position;
U-14 (B) – Kartavya Anadkat – 10th position;
U-16 (G) – Nitya Laheri – 8th position, increased rating by 44 pts.
U-18 (B) – Udit Kamdar – 6th position
Mr. Bhavesh Patel, Secretary, Gujarat State Chess Association conveyed congratulations to all the players. Mr. Vijay Goel (Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, Govt. of India) had inaugurated the tournament.
