All 25 gates of Vasna barrage freely opened to discharge water from Dharoi

Ahmedabad: All the 25 gates of Vasana barrage have been opened freely (up to the maximum level) to discharge the heavy flow of water coming from Dharoi dam in rain flooded North Gujarat.
Even as parts of walkways of Sabarmati riverfront in the city have been submerged owing to rising water level, Mayor Gautam Shah said that there was no reason to panic and the water level is likely to recede from late afternoon.
According to official figures 68800 cusec water was released from Dharoi at 6 am today which reached Subhash bridge in the city at around 10 am. At 2 pm the release from Dharoi was 60803 and the water level in Sabarmati at Subhash bridge was 143.71 meter, almost one meter below the while alert danger mark of 144.65 meters.
The discharge from Vasna was 86597 cusec at 2pm.
Mayor Shah said that the low-lying areas in Chandrabhaga have been alerted and arrangements for shifting people in two AMC governed schools in Vadaj and in the building in front of Gandhi Ashram have been made.
