Palanpur: As many as 800 illegal pipelines laid to draw water from Narmada canal were removed by Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd(SSNNL) officials joined by police and other staff in order to make sure that limited stock of water stays reserved for drinking purpose in upcoming summer.
The drive was carried out in Kankrej taluka area at Narmada main canal which is aligned with the farms belonging to local villages such as Ranakpur, Jakhel, Jotada, Nekariya, Mandla, Arjansar, Tantiyana, Subapura, Sultanpura, Godh etc.
Deodar police DySP, 4 police sub inspectors, and over 100 strong staff was part of the operation.
It should be noted here that the government has last month clarified that there’s no sufficient water left in Narmada dam to allow irrigation in summer. The remaining water has to be reserved exclusively for drinking purpose.
