Monsoon/rainfall activities in Gujarat to remain somewhat subdued for 4 days: Met Director

Ahmedabad:

Due to weakened atmospheric system the monsoon and rain activities will remain somewhat subdued for 4 days beginning today and it is likely to intensify again from July 10, IMD center Director and senior meteorologist Jayanta Sarkar said.

He said that the rainfall activities will remain subdued on July 6, 7, 8 and 9.

‘It is because the synoptic situation was not so strong now. Currently only an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over South Pakistan and neighbourhood extending up to 4.5km above mean sea level. Apart from this a feeble off-shore trough at mean sea level extents from South Gujarat coast to North Kerala coast,’ he said.

Sarkar added that from July 10, more intense monsoon/rain activities are likely.

‘From 10 onward Saurashtra and Kutch region are likely to see good rainfall again,’ he said.

Notably, after a vigorous spell the monsoon has become somewhat subdued in the last 24 hours itself with only 76 talukas of 22 of 33 districts seeing light to moderate rains. Pardi in Valsad with maximum rain figures in the last 24 hours across the state could record only 62mm (a little over two inches) of rain.
