After PM’s remark, ASI allows photography inside all protected monuments barring three
July 13, 2018
New Delhi: Photography will be allowed in all of the monuments and archeological sites administered by the ASI, except the mausoleum at Taj Mahal, the Ajanta Caves and the Leh Palace, says the order issued by Archaeological Survey of India(ASI) after Prime Minister Narendra Modi questioned the logic behind the photography restrictions at an event to inaugurate a new headquarters of ASI earlier today. ASI administers and manages 3,686 protected monuments and archaeological sites.
The PM had earlier today said he felt that restricting people from clicking photographs was not right.
Professional photographers, historians and academicians require permission under a 2016 order of ASI which had made it mandatory for photographers to be licensed to operate commercially in protected monuments.
