Live: Iconic cable-stayed bridge opens for traffic in Surat

Surat: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today dedicated iconic cable stayed bridge in Surat and other development works totalling Rs 913.56 crore. The Chief Minister launched ‘Surat Sona ni Murat’ book and a fleet of 300 city buses which will be in operation in addition to existing 275 city buses. He also laid foundation stone for construction of proposed phase-2 ring road of Surat. A new cable bridge is believed first two-way cable bridge in Gujarat in operation. It is the first cable bridge after Kolkata in which total load of the bridge is carried by cables as per a claim. A new bridge opened today is 12th river bridge in Surat – the city of bridge which has more than 100 bridge considering the number of flyovers and river bridges both. Speaking in this function, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said, government would declare new development plan of Surat soon. He said ro-ro ferry will start on 12 October, on third day of Navratri with a new vessel which will be able to carry trucks, buses, scooters and cars along with passengers. Rupani said new ferry service will be helpful for people of Saurashtra during Diwali festival.
