Lions to roar again in Gujarat capital

Gandhinagar/Jungadh: The visitors of the zoo of Indrora Nature park in Gandhinagar would soon again witness the roars of Asiatic lions as the central zoo authority and other related authorities have given permission for that. It is expected that in next 2 to 3 days, a pair of lions (an 8 year old lion and a 10 year old lioness) from Junagadh based Sakkarbaug zoo would arrive in Gandhinagar.

A senior forest official said that the Indrora zoo had lion till 2002 but after its death that year, it was deprived of lions.

The lions brought from Junagadh would be put separately ie in quarantine for 21 days for observation purpose before they are put in the enclosure for public display. Special training to the staff of Indrora national park has been imparted for proper upkeep of the lions.

Indrora park is spread over an area of about 400 hectares on the bank of Sabarmati river in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. It is considered to be the second largest hatchery of dinosaur eggs in the world. Regarded as India’s Jurrasic Park, it is run by the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation (GEER), and is the only dinosaur museum in the country. The park consists of a zoo, massive skeletons of sea mammals like the blue whale, as well as a vast botanical garden, amphitheater, interpretation center and camping facilities. It also has a Wilderness Park which is home to innumerable species of birds, reptiles, hundreds of nilgais, langurs and peafowls in its vast forest.
