Former minister Sundarsinh Chauhan rejoins BJP within two days of joining Congress

Nadiad: Former minister of state Sundarsinh Chauhan today rejoined BJP within 50 hours after joining Congress at State Congress headquarters.

Sundarsinh rejoined BJP in Nadiad in presence of senior BJP MLA Pankaj Desai and Lok Sabha member Devusinh Chauhan today.

Sundarsinh said, ‘I had gone to meet Malsinhbhai where he along with other Congress workers surrounded me and asked me to join Congress. I refused their proposal and said I will continue to be BJP member. I was misled and cheated by Congress.’

Sundarsinh Chauhan was Janta Dal MLA from Mehmedabad seat in 1990 and later BJP MLA representing same seat post 1998, 2002 and 2007(he didn’t contest election in 1995). He was junior minister(labour and employment) for two terms and parliamentary secretary of Panchayats department during 2009-2012. He was defeated by rival Congress candidate in 2012 general elections. Chauhan wasn’t repeated as BJP candidate in 2017 assembly polls.

Chauhan had shared his resignation letter day before yesterday with media and joined Congress party at State party headquarters in presence of State party president and others. He had also issued a statement on his joining Congress.

It is believed that after intervention by party leadership and foot work by party’s district level leaders, Sundarsinh could be placated to rejoin BJP. It must be remembered that Sundarsinh was two-term minister/parliamentary secretary picked by then Chief Minister Narendra Modi himself. As news of such a senior party man joining Congress reached a person on the top at Delhi, the party was directed to convince Sundarsinh to reconsider his decision and bring him back to party. Finding that he was recognized by man on the top at Delhi level, Sundarsinh agreed to rejoin the party.
