Art and Music galore at Dhal Ni Pol Festival
November 18, 2019
Ahmedabad: After its first edition in 2018, the Dhal Ni Pol festival 2019 by Brihati Foundation – powered by Claris – is back with more innovative offerings. The Dhal Ni Pol festival will be celebrated from 18th November to 25th November 2019 at Dhal Ni Pol, walled city of Ahmedabad.
This year, the festival once again brings new sustainable solutions and public community space for the residents of Dhal Ni Pol. The week-long festival will feature wall painting workshop and Art and Architecture Exhibition. Kids’ heritage walk, music and dance performance, yoga in pols, and food marathon are also a part of the festival this time.
Years of urbanization, migration, and lifestyle changes have led to gradual degradation of the long-standing local socio-economic system of many Indian cities. Restoring this eco-system is imperative as these elements help sustain a city’s vibrancy and diversity.
With an aim to “give back to the city, Brihati Foundation has been working on improving the condition of public spaces in the precinct of Dhal ni Pol, in the old city of Ahmedabad, since last two years. For this project, the team has created open public community space for residents which can also be utilized as playground, initiated waste management program, brought in street art through wall paintings and installations to make these Pols a vibrant space for generations to see and experience. In addition, installation of vertical gardens with 25 native species of plants, rehabilitation of chowks and architectural elements, such as Otlas, Chokdi, Cotta stone pavements and facades of the old residential houses are also being done in a consistent manner.
The foundation aims at reviving the cities and conserving their culture by integrating them in our daily lives, and not limiting them to a tourist experience.
