Ahmedabad: Main opposition Congress today organized protest here in front of the office of the University Granthnirman Board on the issue of its book ‘ Gujarat ni Rajkiya Gatha’ (The political history of Gujarat) in which the party has allegedly been blamed for various things including the notorious Godhra train burning incident that triggered 2002 Gujarat riots.
Members of Youth Congress, Woman Congress, NSUI and city wing of the party assembled in front of the office of the Board near Gujarat college in Ellis bridge area and started shouting slogans against the Chairman of the board Bhavnaben Dave who along with Parikshit Joshi has edited the chronological book.
Police detained several of them. Dave said that the protests were uncalled for as the book was based on facts which were published in several newspapers of that time.
A congress leader said that the party would intensify its protests in Gandhian way if the book was not recalled by the board in 48 hours.
Notably, the coach S 6 of Sabarmati Express was burnt near Godhara railway station in Gujarat on February 27, 2002 killing over 50 passengers mostly pilgrims returning from Ayodhya. A day after the incident, state-wide riots started in Gujarat. The book has reportedly alleged that some of the elected representatives of Congress party were also responsible for the conspiracy of the Godhara incident.
The book allegedly also points fingers toward Congress for the delay in Narmada project.
