Gujarat government hikes charges for PUC certificate

Gandhinagar: Commissioner of Transport, Government of Gujarat has imposed hike in charges levied by authorized centres for issuance of Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate for vehicles. Charges for Moped are up from Rs. 10 earlier to Rs. 20 now, two wheelers (excluding mopeds) Rs 20 to Rs. 30 now, three wheelers (LPG/Petrol/Diesel) from Rs. 25 to Rs. 60, LMV(CNG/LPG/Petrol) from Rs. 50 to Rs. 80 and, All medium and heavy motor vehicles from Diesel and CNG Rs.60 earlier to Rs. 100 now.

A vehicle, not carrying a valid PUC Certificate is liable to be prosecuted under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act. A penalty of Rs. 1000/- for first offence and Rs.2000/- for every subsequent offence of violation has been provided. Computerised facilities for checking of pollution levels and issue of PUC Certificates (to vehicles meeting emission standards) are available at many petrol pumps/workshops. These authorised Pollution Checking Centres are spread all over Gujarat. At present, 410 Centres for petrol / CNG driven vehicles and 231 Centres for the diesel driven vehicles are functioning. Theses centres issue Pollution Under Control Certificates (PUC) if the vehicle is found meeting prescribed emission norms. In case the vehicle is found polluting beyond prescribed norms, necessary repairs/ tuning in the vehicle would be required. PUC for new vehicle is valid for first 1 year. Then after for BS III – after every 6 months and for BS IV – after every 1 year.
