Local Court orders 2-year imprisonment to former Surendranagar Lok Sabha MP
October 03, 2020
Gandhinagar: Former Lok Sabha member of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, Devji Fatepara has been given 2 years simple imprisonment and Rs. 2.97 crore fine by local court in Kalol in North Gujarat. Ahmedabad based Prabharsinh Thakor had filed case of cheque return against Fatepara on 13 October 2016.
Thaokr and Fatepara were friends. Fatepara had decided to sell a farm land near Rajkot to Thoakor and received Rs. 1.48 crore from Thakor on this account. Document for this sell was made on 25 April 2014. However later as the land deal couldn’t be completed for some reasons, Fatepara gave Rs. 1.48 crore cheque to Prabhtsinh. However this cheque couldn’t be encashed and returned.
Prabhatsinh had sent a notice to Fatepura for payment but Fatepara failed to make payment in notice period. Fatepara has been given three-year simple imprisonment and has also been asked to pay Rs. 2.97 lakh to Thakor. If he fails to pay this sum, he will face three more months in prison.
Hailing from Congress, Fatepara as MLA joined BJP and became Lok Sabha member of Surendranagar seat. He was denied Lok Sabha ticket in last Lok Sabha general elections.
