Defeated Congress candidate questions BJP MLA’s caste certificate; moves High Court
July 06, 2021
Vadodara: BJP MLA Nimisha Suthar’s victory in Morva Hadaf assembly seat by-election has been challenged by rival defeated candidate of Congress party Suresh Katara. In a plea filed in the Gujarat High Court Katara has objected Suthar’s caste certificate. It’s worth noting that Morva Hadaf seat is reserved for tribal candidates (Schedule Tribe or ST). Katara alleges that Nimisha Suthar does not belong to tribal community. The High Court has summoned BJP MLA, Election Officer and independent candidate on 2nd August. Nimisha Suthar has been MLA of Morva Hadaf in the past too. It is interesting to note that Morva Hadaf seat by-poll was held early this year because previous independent MLA’s caste certificate was invalidated by relevant office of the State government and that move was subsequently approved by the Courts when challenged.
